Compared to other domestic brands, BAW has obviously garnered more attention. Historically, the BAW 212 is the first true SUV in China! Now, this vehicle has completed its second major overhaul. In addition to maintaining its off-road capabilities, the new 212 has also expanded on fashionable elements, making it reminiscent of a Mercedes G-Class at first glance.
So, while performance is important, it’s actually the design style that captivates me! The suggested retail price ranges from 139,900 to 172,900 CNY, which is indeed on the higher side. However, it conveniently avoids direct competition with the Tank 300! In terms of design, the new generation 212 is quite ingenious. The front has been simplified, but every design choice is spot on. For instance, the front bumper has eliminated structural ridges, and this simplification has actually enhanced the sense of strength. The twin circular headlights have shed their cheap image, while the grille and the familiar rounded hood design remain intact.
Moving to the side, the design is almost in sync with the previously launched “Sniper” edition 212. The waistline has been replaced by a wider body style, and the previously visible rivets at the rear have been completely removed, which may make the vehicle feel a bit less robust, but it doesn’t diminish the overall presence of the car. Additionally, the previously removable roof has been entirely removed as well!
Looking at the rear, the new 212 features a vertical layout, with three independent tail lights positioned more toward the sides. The new vehicle also comes standard with an external spare tire, underscoring its ruggedness!
As for the interior, the new 212 has jumped from ancient times straight into the information age! The materials used inside are primarily soft-touch, meaning that the previous exposed designs are now history! In the display area, it comes equipped with a 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel and a 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen, and features such as internet connectivity and OTA updates are included. The lower part of the screen retains a wireless charging feature. In terms of seating, the new car is upholstered entirely in high-quality leather, and the mid to high trims also offer heated and massage seats.
Regarding performance, the new model is powered by a 2.0T turbocharged engine, boasting a maximum output of 252 horsepower, and it can run on 92 octane gasoline, which helps lower ownership costs! The familiar 8-speed automatic transmission is also present. The body structure features a non-load-bearing chassis with a large frame and a full bridge suspension at both front and rear, contributing to a robust setup that ensures excellent off-road capabilities!
